The Plan for Every Child campaign aims to work with various stakeholders such as children and youth, communities, government agencies, institutions, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and individual experts to bring about effective changes in the lives of children, particularly of children in difficult circumstances. The campaign aims to highlight and find solutions to issues faced by children in difficult circumstances:

  • India has 19% of the world’s population of children. As we move ahead with the agenda of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, it is crucial for India to reach out to this vulnerable and crucial segment of the population. It is imperative that in these ambitious – and yet achievable – goals, no child is left behind and all children, especially those in difficult circumstances, and girls in particular, form the centre of the agenda.
  • Over the years, India has made several efforts through its policies, laws and programmes to ensure children’s rights to survival, protection, development and participation. However, challenges remain and millions of children continue to face difficulties. Plan India recognises that making the needle move for positive change requires a multi-dimensional, concerted and coordinated effort.

Plan India and Plan International, as part of their latest national and global strategies respectively, put forth a strong commitment to supporting the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals through children’s rights, particularly through equality for girls. Gender equality and social inclusion are cross-cutting themes across all our work.

Plan India recognises that girls, particularly from marginalised communities, face multiple disadvantages owing not just to their vulnerable situation but also due to their gender. We have consistently partnered with the Indian Government, CSOs, United Nation agencies, grass root communities, as well as youth and child networks, to highlight the issues of children and bring about positive change at all levels.


Aiming at an inclusive, multi-dimensional and sustainable approach, the campaign aims to act locally, influence nationally and engage globally. This year, the campaign will focus on solutions for improving the inclusion, access and opportunities for girls, with a particular focus on key vulnerable group with the understanding that the issues surrounding them are inter-related and cannot be seen in isolation, while also acknowledging that there needs to be detailed focus on solutions specific to each category of vulnerability.
